All skits were based on their covered literature work which involved Remember the Titans directed by Boaz Yakin and the two short stories The Doll’s House by Katherine Mansfield and The Necklace by Guy De Mauppasant.       • Today’s Mass celebration was marked by a joyful and meaningful milestone for our school community—the blessing of our newly acquired truck with holy water. This sacred ritual, led with reverence and gratitude, symbolizes our prayer for protection, good fortune, and purposeful service as the vehicle begins its journey in support of our students, staff, and daily operations.
      • Today, our school was blessed with an unexpected visit from a very generous and kind tourist staying at Lagoon View Resort. In a short period of time, he surprised us by donating a few basketball jersey singlets, books, and pens. Though his visit was brief, his act of kindness was truly great and will be remembered by our school community for years to come.
      • Friday 19th Sept, early in the morning before period 2 start, our students and staff proudly took part in a community cleaning campaign, organized by the Ministry of Line and Phoenix Island Development. With great energy and teamwork, our school family collected inorganic rubbish, packing it into green bags for proper disposal.

        On Friday, 5th September, we held our PTA Meeting and Term 3 Report Giving. It was inspiring to see so many parents and guardians come in to meet with teachers, talk about their children’s learning journey, and share ideas together.

      • As part of their pre-project activities, the Form 4A students at St. Francis High School are learning hands-on local skills that every household or village in Kiribati should know. These traditional skills not only preserve cultural heritage but also provide practical knowledge for real-life situations.

        The vibrant spirit of teamwork and healthy competition filled the air today as St. Francis of Assisi High School hosted its much-anticipated Inter-Team Sports Day at the Mini Stadium in Ronton, Kiritimati. The event brought together students, teachers, community members, and special guests in a celebration of athleticism and unity.
      • At St. Francis High School, the name we carry is more than just a title—it’s a calling. The name “Francis” has always reminded us of simplicity, compassion, peace, and care for the poor, just as Saint Francis of Assisi lived centuries ago. But in our own lifetime, we had the gift of witnessing someone who embodied that same spirit: Pope Francis.

        • A big-fat shout-out to St. Francis staff led by Chaplain Tirikai and Maereiti for digging a trench for electric wire to run underground from the main box (Baoki ni Iti) to the new staff house.

        • A short school visit by two American tourists

        • Two USA tourists visited the school today and kindly donated some stationaries and other items. Their visit was appreciated by the whole community.         • End of Term 3 Fun Day & Fundraising

        • A total amount of $1,148.80 was raised during the last day of school on 16th of August this year. Three to four teachers with no forms joined with Form Teachers of the 8 classes of Forms 4,5 and 6 to raise funds towards a school truck. Form 5B with Moanibou Ngaruenga, their form teacher, raised the highest sum of money and will be given a reward of $100.00. More details as follow:

        • End of Term 2 Examination in Progress

        • Exams kick start today on 8th August 2024 and the school compound is dead silent as everybody is occupied attempting to answer their question papers in their assigned rooms. To allow comfort with space and privacy, all classes are using their homerooms for their exam from today until next Thursday 15th August when exams are to end. During the break, everybody is encouraged to wait within the school compound but far from the classrooms. Many students are waiting in the Mwaneaba and under the shade of te Kanawa/ te Bero trees before their afternoon papers commence. The weather today is at 32 degrees Celsius. It’s quite warm and sometimes the students find the tree shades and the Poverello mwaneaba as ideal waiting sites because they are cool.

        • St.Francis High School staff and students were overjoyed to be the winners of this year’s competition. Schools participating included us, the Phoenix Islands Senior Secondary School (LPSSS), Itoini Mainiku High School and Kiritimati Atoll Junior Secondary School. This is history for all of us because it was the first time to introduce keeping a record of three important achievements: school top track runners, shortest time used in the track events in all track events covered and finally the longest distance covered by field event competitors in the shot putt and long jump.

        • Forms 4 and 5 Quiz Team are preparing before the upcoming Quiz to take place on the 14th of July in Ronton. Their opponents will be their sister schools on the island namely the Line and Phoenix Senior Secondary known for its short name LPSSS and Itoi ni Mainiku Secondary School. It will be the first time for many to present themselves in public and speaking on stage to a larger audience so it’s going to be a real challenge but will be rewarding at the same time. These students are not only going to be excellent in their subjects but they should learn to respond within the short time limit permitted.

        • St Francis High School celebrated St Paul’s and St Peter’s Feast day on Friday 28th June. The celebration began with a march parade by the two school teams named after our patron saints in the front area of the school compound.         • Staff and students are at the peak of a hectic week of preparations before the upcoming 45th independence anniversary which the school will also participate in for various events which include the marching parade, interschool sports competition, quiz competition, speech competition to name but a few. At the same time staff are marking their examination papers, entering results after the mid-term school-based assessment convened during Weeks 6 to 7, ongoing literacy and numeracy tutorials and assessment, training of the squad team, having special classes for the quiz, speech presentation, march practising and boarding with selected participants staying at Poverello Mwaneaba . At the same time both Forms 6 Science and Arts and Commerce are meeting their IA deadlines in some of their subjects.         • School Based Assessment (SBA) at SFHS @ Week 6 Term 2

        • A mixed group of Forms 4, 5 and 6 students during one of the tutorial sessions this term.

          A four day SBA and two important tests on Te Ribana numeracy and literacy were convened this week. The former was timetable based therefore each teacher looked after his / her own class assessment. The latter was carried out on Monday 16th June and Wednesday 18th June at Period 6. The main topics covered are the basics of both subjects as we still have a number of students needing assistance on these. There is a total of 5 groups who are looked after by 4 teachers in one classroom. Every once a week the Heads of Departments, Mr Ueanterube Biriro (Maths) and Ms Maere Tekanene (English) prepare the teachers a day before these tutorial sessions.

        • On 7th June 2024, the school was honored and grateful to witness an important milestone in the lives of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, renewal of their vows to their missionary vocation last Friday at Poverello mwaneaba. The fours nuns, Sr. Lucy Betero (Deputy Principal), Sr Totoua Ienikabo (Former teacher) and their two PNG colleagues humbly renewed their vows in celebration of their patron’s anniversary and to keep up with their missionary vocation to the best they could.

        • PTA 2024 is Established

          St Francis PTA for 2024 was finally established on 31st May after a meeting of staff and parents convened at the school hall. At the start of the PTA at 11 in the morning more than 20 parents were present. Representation is mostly by village inclusive of some church representatives given we have some students from other religions. The school is hopeful to achieve more improvement required at the school through this volunatary PTA. The principal, Adrian Merake, informed the parents that it will not keep them over occupied as it will meet twice a term. The next step is to convene a proper PTA with selected staff. Parents turnout was better than previous years as the school met the hire costs for two trucks, one from Banana and the other from Ronton to St Francis High School. Towards lunch hour the school received more than 60 parents and guardians. More details

          On Friday 24th of May, the school was privileged and grateful to welcome important guests to the school who conducted our school mass at Period 6.  They are Fr.Kanoua Iotebwa and Deacon Tekaei. Raweaitina. Fr Kanoua Iotebwa was leading the mass and assisted by Deacon Tekaei Raweaitina. The former is not new to St Francis High School as he had assisted in the school some years back as Religious Education teacher. For Deacon Tekaei Raweaitina, this is his first visit to Kiritimati island.
