            • A Memorable Day: MP Teribwa Taabe Connects with Students

            • The school community was honoured by a visit from Teribwa Taabe, marking a historic moment as the first visit by a Kiritimati MP in over 20 years. His presence allowed students and staff to engage directly, as he listened to their views and shared updates on what the government is offering for this term.

              During his visit, MP Taabe also presented two generous gifts to the school: a Brother printer and a musical keyboard, which will support both learning and co-curricular activities. The school is truly grateful for these contributions and the meaningful engagement.

              The visit strengthened the relationship between the school and its representative, and the community wishes him well for the upcoming House of Parliament meeting. Discussions also included a proposed new bill, during which many students expressed their views; the majority were not in favour, highlighting the importance of student voice.

            • Station of the Cross Prayer to balance our Academic Progress !

            • Our school community gathered together today in prayer and reflection as we observed the Stations of the Cross as part of our Lenten season activities.

              Students and teachers joined with reverence and willing hearts, meditating on the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It was a solemn and spiritually uplifting moment for the whole school community.

            • Miss Kiribati & Miss Micronesia 2026 at our school

              Smiles and laughter filled our school today as Miss Kiribati 2026 paid us a special visit. The joy and excitement could be seen on every face — from the youngest students to the teachers — as her warm and cheerful presence lit up the entire school community.

              Despite the busyness of both her schedule and the school program, she made time to be with us, and every smile she shared made the day even more special. 😊

              During her visit, she witnessed the weekly awards ceremony where outstanding students were recognised for their efforts — a moment made even more joyful by her beaming presence in the room. The school then invited her for a light refreshment, where the happy atmosphere continued, before each class had the wonderful opportunity to take a photo with her. 📸

            • ❤️ The Heart of MoE - Right Here, Right Now!

            • Our school community was filled with joy and pride as the Honorable Minister of Education, Ruateki Tekaiara, arrived with his Ministry of Education team. The visit began with national items, a warm welcoming song by students, and traditional garlanding, reflecting the island’s deep respect and heartfelt hospitality.

              In his address, the Minister encouraged and inspired both students and staff. Alongside the celebrations, the Ministry team also carried out school observations, reviewing overall management systems, standards, and accreditation processes to support continuous improvement and quality education.

              The visit concluded with a shared meal, symbolizing unity and fellowship between the Ministry officials and the school community. It was a truly memorable day—one marked by togetherness, pride, and the strengthening of our commitment to educational excellence on Kiritimati

            • ASH WEDNESDAY & LEADERSHIP INDUCTION

              Today, our school community gathered in prayer to observe Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Fr Butonga, Parish Priest from Tabuaeran, and was well coordinated and served by our parish catechists.

              Ash Wednesday called us to a season of prayer, conversion, and penitence, strengthening our faith and inviting us to live in solidarity with others within our parish, school community, and the wider world.

              Following the Mass, the Induction and Blessing of Student Leaders was held for our Head Boy, Head Girl, Deputies, Team Leaders, Prefects, and Class Leaders. This marked the official beginning of their leadership responsibilities and entrusted them to God’s guidance as they serve with humility and commitment.

              We sincerely thank Fr Butonga for his inspiring homily, reminding us of the Lenten pillars of Prayer, Conversion, and Generosity, and we are grateful to the Tabwakea community and our catechists for walking with us in faith as we begin this sacred journey together.

            • SRC Leadership Formation Workshop

              The Student Representative Council (SRC) successfully held a Pre-Induction Leadership Formation Workshop, facilitated by the SRC Coordinating Staff, to prepare student leaders for service and responsibility.

              The workshop formed students for their upcoming roles as Form Captains, Prefects, Team Leaders, and Head Boy and Head Girl, with a focus on leadership, teamwork, discipline, and servant leadership. The six-hour program began with prayer, followed by short, meaningful talks from staff members, interactive games, and a shared meal.

              A hands-on mini project, which involved cleaning the school compounds, gave SRC members the opportunity to practise leadership through service and teamwork. The workshop was both productive and enjoyable, and it also prepared students spiritually and practically for the installation and blessing of Heads and Prefects scheduled for this coming Wednesday.

              The school thanks the SRC Coordinating Staff and all teachers involved for their commitment to forming responsible and dedicated student leaders

            • “With Grateful Hearts: A Gift of Service to Our School”

            • The School Community is pleased to announce that the School Staff Home project is now nearing completion, with the roofing stage currently in progress.

              This important milestone reflects the strong spirit of cooperation and commitment within our parish. The construction work has been carried out by Catechists, who have generously volunteered their time, skills, and energy, showing great eagerness and dedication to complete the work in service to the school and parish.

              The school sincerely acknowledges and expresses its deep gratitude to the Catholic Women (Itonigaina) Kiritimati, who have fully funded this project. Their generous support and sacrifice have made this parish initiative possible and have contributed greatly to the welfare and stability of school staff.

              The school community is very happy and thankful for the commitment shown by all involved. This Staff Home stands as a shared parish achievement, built through faith, cooperation, and service. We are truly grateful for the energy, time, and generosity offered to bring this project close to completion.

              St Francis High School held its first Monday Morning Assembly Parade under the national flag. Students stood proudly to show their I-Kiribati identity and unity as one community in the Line and Phoenix Islands. The assembly began with the national anthem, followed by announcements from the Principal and the day’s program.

              Students from Forms 4, 5, and 6 wore the same uniform, while Form 7 students wore white and black. It was a fresh and beautiful morning for a meaningful start to the week.

            • Resumption of Classes After Long Holiday

            • After a long holiday break, students have happily returned to school to begin the new academic year. The campus was filled with excitement, smiles, and positive energy as students reunited with friends and teachers.

              As we approach the national examination period, our school has come together in a spirit of unity and care to prepare our environment for success. Both students and staff have generously given their time and energy to support a litter-free campus, recognizing that a clean space contributes to a clear and focused mind.


              This initiative is more than just tidying up—it's a symbol of readiness, discipline, and collective pride. By removing clutter and waste, we are setting the tone for a calm, organized, and uplifting atmosphere where every student can feel supported and encouraged.


              We are especially grateful to our dear friends at KOIL Kiritimati Branch, whose generous donation of trash drums has made a significant impact. These drums have helped us gather waste efficiently, keeping our grounds neat and free from scattered rubbish. Their support has empowered our students to take responsibility for non-organic waste and understand the importance of proper disposal.

              Public Notice: Relocation of Community Dump Site – Kiritimati Island
              Please be advised that the usual dump site previously located opposite our school has now been officially closed.
              The new designated dump site has been relocated to the lagoon side, as shown in the photos above. We kindly ask all community members to take note of this change and dispose of waste responsibly at the new location.
              This update is part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment for our students, staff, and the wider Kiritimati community.

              Hoorays to our incredible students who made a real difference on this day! With energy, teamwork, and care, they completed the full cycle of responsible waste management:
              •  Placing rubbish properly into the designated drums
              •  Collecting all drums from around the classroom blocks
              • Transporting and emptying every drum—along with other scattered rubbish—at the proper dump site

            • End of Term 3 Fun Day & Fundraising

              A total amount of $1,148.80 was raised during the last day of school on 16th of August this year. Three to four teachers with no forms joined with Form Teachers of the 8 classes of Forms 4,5 and 6 to raise funds towards a school truck. Form 5B with Moanibou Ngaruenga, their form teacher, raised the highest sum of money and will be given a reward of $100.00. More details as follow:

              St.Francis High School received a total prize of $1673.00 for its great achievement in the following competitions during the 45th Independence celebrations. The following were the competitions that it entered and judged against its fellow senior secondary schools on the island :

            • End of Term 2 Examination in Progress

              8/8/2024

              Exams kick start today on 8th August 2024 and the school compound is dead silent as everybody is occupied attempting to answer their question papers in their assigned rooms. To allow comfort with space and privacy, all classes are using their homerooms for their exam from today until next Thursday 15th August when exams are to end. During the break, everybody is encouraged to wait within the school compound but far from the classrooms. Many students are waiting in the Mwaneaba and under the shade of te Kanawa/ te Bero trees before their afternoon papers commence. The weather today is at 32 degrees Celsius. It’s quite warm and sometimes the students find the tree shades and the Poverello mwaneaba as ideal waiting sites because they are cool.

              St.Francis High School staff and students were overjoyed to be the winners of this year’s competition. Schools participating included us, the Phoenix Islands Senior Secondary School (LPSSS), Itoini Mainiku High School and Kiritimati Atoll Junior Secondary School. This is history for all of us because it was the first time to introduce keeping a record of three important achievements: school top track runners, shortest time used in the track events in all track events covered and finally the longest distance covered by field event competitors in the shot putt and long jump.

              Forms 4 and 5 Quiz Team are preparing before the upcoming Quiz to take place on the 14th of July in Ronton. Their opponents will be their sister schools on the island namely the Line and Phoenix Senior Secondary known for its short name LPSSS and Itoi ni Mainiku Secondary School. It will be the first time for many to present themselves in public and speaking on stage to a larger audience so it’s going to be a real challenge but will be rewarding at the same time. These students are not only going to be excellent in their subjects but they should learn to respond within the short time limit permitted.

              St Francis High School celebrated St Paul’s and St Peter’s Feast day on Friday 28th June. The celebration began with a march parade by the two school teams named after our patron saints in the front area of the school compound. St Peter won in all competitions beginning from the morning march parade, field events and indoor events at the school mwaneaba,Poverello.

              Staff and students are at the peak of a hectic week of preparations before the upcoming 45th independence anniversary which the school will also participate in for various events which include the marching parade, interschool sports competition, quiz competition, speech competition to name but a few. At the same time staff are marking their examination papers, entering results after the mid-term school-based assessment convened during Weeks 6 to 7, ongoing literacy and numeracy tutorials and assessment, training of the squad team, having special classes for the quiz, speech presentation, march practising and boarding with selected participants staying at Poverello Mwaneaba . At the same time both Forms 6 Science and Arts and Commerce are meeting their IA deadlines in some of their subjects.             • School Based Assessment (SBA) at SFHS @ Week 6 Term 2

              A mixed group of Forms 4, 5 and 6 students during one of the tutorial sessions this term.

              A four day SBA and two important tests on Te Ribana numeracy and literacy were convened this week. The former was timetable based therefore each teacher looked after his / her own class assessment. The latter was carried out on Monday 16th June and Wednesday 18th June at Period 6. The main topics covered are the basics of both subjects as we still have a number of students needing assistance on these. There is a total of 5 groups who are looked after by 4 teachers in one classroom. Every once a week the Heads of Departments, Mr Ueanterube Biriro (Maths) and Ms Maere Tekanene (English) prepare the teachers a day before these tutorial sessions.

              On 7th June 2024, the school was honored and grateful to witness an important milestone in the lives of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, renewal of their vows to their missionary vocation last Friday at Poverello mwaneaba. The fours nuns, Sr. Lucy Betero (Deputy Principal), Sr Totoua Ienikabo (Former teacher) and their two PNG colleagues humbly renewed their vows in celebration of their patron’s anniversary and to keep up with their missionary vocation to the best they could.

              PTA 2024 is Established

              St Francis PTA for 2024 was finally established on 31st May after a meeting of staff and parents convened at the school hall. At the start of the PTA at 11 in the morning more than 20 parents were present. Representation is mostly by village inclusive of some church representatives given we have some students from other religions. The school is hopeful to achieve more improvement required at the school through this volunatary PTA. The principal, Adrian Merake, informed the parents that it will not keep them over occupied as it will meet twice a term. The next step is to convene a proper PTA with selected staff. Parents turnout was better than previous years as the school met the hire costs for two trucks, one from Banana and the other from Ronton to St Francis High School. Towards lunch hour the school received more than 60 parents and guardians. More details

              LAUNCHING OUR NEWSLETTER TEAM with two Form 6 (Year 12) students taking a turn doing an interview with our guests and exploring more news collection in future. More students from this year group will do the same in the upcoming weeks. Stay In Tune.

              On Friday 24th of May, the school was privileged and grateful to welcome important guests to the school who conducted our school mass at Period 6.  They are Fr.Kanoua Iotebwa and Deacon Tekaei. Raweaitina. Fr Kanoua Iotebwa was leading the mass and assisted by Deacon Tekaei Raweaitina. The former is not new to St Francis High School as he had assisted in the school some years back as Religious Education teacher. For Deacon Tekaei Raweaitina, this is his first visit to Kiritimati island.
